Space comes at a dear price in this city. Consequently, shops, restaurants, bars, game centers, hostess clubs, love hotels, and the like are often located on high floors accessible by small elevators. At the front entrances are displays and cute girls trying to lure patrons off the street into their employer’s establishments. And then there are countless shiny ads reaching up the building facades straight to the eaves line. Contrary to the presumption that this sign jungle may confuse visitors, it is helpful if you’re looking for a specific location. How would you otherwise find a DIY okonomiyaki restaurant, if there wasn’t a sign?
